3 Different Types of HVAC Filters in Mesa, AZ
In Mesa, AZ, air filters play a vital role in your HVAC system. They help reduce pollutants and allergens in your home. Your HVAC system may have one of several air filter types.
Washable
Washable air filters, enhanced with electrostatic charges, are effective at catching large particles. You can remove these filters to clean them with water or vacuum them, which means fewer replacements.
They have a MERV score of one to four and remove 94% of particles measuring 10 microns in diameter or more. The MERV score, or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, measures their ability to remove particles. While washable filters can last five years, professionals suggest changing them every three to five months.
Pleated
Disposable pleated air filters are among the most used in HVAC systems, and they’re designed for one-time use. Pleated filters comprise pliable substances, such as cotton or polyester, and resemble an accordion. These filters effectively catch smaller particles, such as carpet fibers, pet dander and pollen.
The folds in the filters give them the benefit of a larger surface area for better filtration. Pleated filters can have a MERV rating up to 16, but they need replacing every 30 days for maximum effectiveness.
Fiberglass
In fiberglass filters, 1-to-2-inch fiberglass sheets cover a chipboard frame. Fiberglass filters often cost less than other types, but they commonly need replacing every 30 days.
They have a MERV rating of one to four, which means they’re effective at catching large particles. If you aren’t prone to allergies or don’t have asthma, they may be ideal for you. However, to maintain high HVAC efficiency, you must not forget to change them since they clog faster.
The type of air filter makes a difference in indoor air quality. For more information, contact Air & Water Mechanical Services, LLC. We would love to assist you in making an informed choice regarding your HVAC filters.
